Day 91: Edward Mordrake’s Second Face

“People are always worried about you: the man with a demon on the back of his head. But do they ever think about me? Ha!” The face that protruded from the base of Edward’s skull whispered; its lips jibbering.

When Edward began to weep, the hideous face chuckled. “Do you think I like being your ‘Devil twin’? Do you think I like it that you are the only one that hears me speak?” Its bulging eyes darted endlessly around the room.

“I may be grotesque; I may be cruel; I may frighten people away, but I have feelings!”

Edward sobbed and put his hands over the face, trying to stifle it.

“You can’t shut me up!” It screamed “No! No! Not until you’re dead!” The face began to laugh loudly. It laughed so loudly that it didn’t even hear the sound of Edward loading his revolver until it was too late.

Day 44: The Cruelty of Children

The only thing different about Albert, was that he had a face resembling an alligator’s. Other than this unusual defect he was a bright, healthy child. Albert tried to hide his condition, but his peers grew suspicious of the birds that landed in his mouth to clean his teeth.

“Albert-gator!” They shrieked. “Albert-gator! If he doesn’t eat you now, he’ll EAT YOU LATER!”

To say this teasing made Albert cry crocodile tears would be cruel, but it was true.

“You’re a lovely boy.” His mother kissed his rough snout. “Kids can be mean, but someday they’ll regret calling you names.”

The next day, Albert was playing by the swimming pool when an older boy pushed him down.

“Crawl on your belly like a REAL alligator!” He laughed. In a flash, Albert clamped his jaws around the boy’s neck and dove underwater, completing a perfect death roll before anyone could intervene.
